4am the alarm goes. On our final day we have 110 miles and 10,000 feet of climbing to do.
Get. Up. Tom.
We are away by 4:30. It is cooler and misty.
A quick drink in Fort Augustus in the sunshine before riding down the Great Glen towards Fort William.
Time for a bit of balance practice (3rd time lucky).
Then not long after this there was a massive rainstorm and we got wet.
Grabbing a couple of doughnuts at the Co-Op in Corpach we rode on. From Fort William we climbed up and over to Kinlochleven.
More supplies at the shop, and then up the Devil's Staircase.
The weather had come good again, but our sodden feet were given us some pain because of our old friend trenchfoot.
As we neared the top the sun was away behind us.
From the foot of the Devil's Staircase to Tyndrum is around 22 miles. In the dark, tired and with feet that were throbbing with pain this took some 4 1/2 hours.
7 days, 18 hours and 8 minutes our time. A couple of hours faster than the year before.
The result though off no training, is that we made it back at all.
A big thanks to -
Our Sonder Frontier bikes which were equipped with Alpkit luggage.
We wore Rapha shorts, jerseys and gilets.
We slept in Findra merino baselayers
We were illuminated by Exposure Toro lights.
Cheers to Stu at Kirby Lonsdale Brewery for bringing us all a bottle of his Highland Trail 550 beer.
Congratulations for all those who came and rode, and those who made it to the end.
....and of course, thanks Alan!
Oh and I must add that the trip has reinvigorated Tom's love for this sort of trip, he has plenty of plans for the future!
